Growing up a sportswear obsessed girl, it usually meant borrowing everything from the boys. All the cool athletic-inspired pieces generally came from the men's department, which meant altering through cutting, adding in laces to tighten pieces (pseudo corsets) and belting. The oversized look is cute but since most pieces weren't cut for curves, meant that they didn't always work on all kinds of women.

Athleisure has taken over the past few seasons, with seemingly endless collaborations between celebrities, influencers and sports brands, trying to corner the market. When Rihanna announced an on-going creative director role with Puma it was exciting, but also a little scary - would her high/low, sporty style translate? The pieces are at a higher price point than most other Puma pieces but are mostly well made, especially the heavier weight fleece pieces. Keep in mind - most are cut to be oversize, especially in this collection as pieces are often unisex, so size down for the perfect "curve friendly but oversized" lewk that Rihanna wears so well.

It's no question that I loved pieces from her last collection, like the lace up sweats I still wear. For the new Fall/Winter 2017 season, the signature lacing details continued. At a recent SIX:02 gifting event, I was able to pick up one of the Fenty x Puma oversized hoody. All details of this piece are exaggerated - from the long, bell sleeves (another trend) to the big hood, and the Fenty lace up detail on the back. It's super cozy and given that it's such a statement piece, I like wearing it over tights, socks and with a jacket to make it the hero of an outfit. Pairing them with Timberland-esque color Nikes (or Puma creepers) gives it a New York edge that's perfect for fall. The hoody also looks amazing layering over more body conscious pieces like dresses and jumpsuits. It's also great for wearing around the house whilst blogging (guilty).

Athleisure is seemingly here to stay, and I love how Rihanna's collection takes cues from all the "borrowed from the boys" alterations that had to be made to sportswear over the years for it to be female friendly - cropping, exaggerated fits and yes, lacing.
